The Golis Family created the Cory Golis/Anchor House Foundation Scholarship Fund to provide tuition assistance to high school graduates to attend college, trade or technical school in memory of their son/brother Cory Golis. Cory was a loving soul who had an incredible zest for life and laughter.

This year the Golis Fund awarded 17 young people a total of $27,500 in educational assistance.  Seven Anchor House youth received scholarships totaling $13,000.

Since 1999, the Golis family, Jim, Jerri and Jeremy, have been awarding scholarships totaling over $300,000. Approximately 200 students received scholarships since the fund’s inception.

“The Golis’ family has turned unimaginable heartbreak and tragedy into educational scholarship opportunities for local high school students to achieve their dreams and goals,” said Kim McNear, Anchor House Executive Director.

This year’s scholarship recipients will attend Innovate Salon, Saint Elizabeth University, William Patterson University, Mercer County Community College and the University of Pennsylvania, among other schools or training.

Donte’ who will be attending St. Elizabeth University to major in psychology reflects on the importance of the scholarship:

“Being a recipient of the Cory Golis Scholarship is both a blessing and of the upmost importance to me because it bridges the gap between education and accessibility in a way that allows a boy from the west-end of Trenton to fulfill his long-awaited dream of not only completing my education in totality, but being the first of my family to attend and earn my college degree,” explains Donte’.

There are many ways to join the Golis Family’s generosity and support young people such as Donte’ on their path to thrive.
